One of the main reasons this track is my favorite is because of the synthwave at the beginning, it perfectly compliments chiptune because of how much depth it gives to the song, along with the euphoric feeling. Another is how the occasional "beep" and "boop" that plays just reverbs out in a very special way, matching with the beat, it compliment to the music even more.
This also made me think: what if you combined synthwave and chiptune in one song?

it's actually a soundfont using the string sound from "A Link To The Past" and a bunch of sine and triangle sounds combined together using a lot of effects making it sound more "synthwave" as you put it. Thank you for the nice review! Been doing some tracks like that but nothing i have uploaded yet :)

the slight "twist" at around 00:25 compliments the lead tune a lot, combined with the slight reverb makes it sound great! It avoids making the lead of the song very repetitive and keeps it entertaining.
I also like that part at the end, it makes the outro of the song very subtle
